DISSOLVING

BORDERS

IDENTITY | POSTER

A promotional poster created for a virtual exhibition “Dissolving Borders: Contemporary Comparison of the Changing Confinements of the Middle East”.

The poster emulates how the exhibition brings together the artifacts from the Middle East in hope it will help bridge the gaps between the cultures and dissolve the borders as sand dunes would dissolve in the wind.

To suit the contemporary approach we took for the exhibition the poster takes a step back from the traditional formal museum posters. The organic lines emulates sand hills in deserts. It was emulated for mainly two reasons. Firstly, it is one of the main geographic features in the middle east. Second, sand hills in a way is a good representations of the changes in borders or events of the Middle east. Like how easily the sand lines are dispersed, the boundaries are ever changing in Middle east. The neutral color scheme and mezzotint grain texture is inspired by the sand. The exhibition title can be seen disseminating into the sand dome outlines to suit the dissolving borders concept.

Additional patterns inspired by the Middle East were created for display in the exhibition.
